What will we see from this year’s E3?

It’s finally the first day of the Expo! We had a long, tiring day running from conference to conference but today was Nintendo’s day to shine.

But did it? The Nintendo Direct Digital Event was pretty dang short and didn’t give us as much as wanted. Though a lot of games were announced, like an open world Zelda title for the Wii U.

We also saw the announcement of the previously leakedMario Maker where you can create your own Mario courses. Thanks said leak, there will probably be a demo of this on the show floor.

Following in the footsteps of Disney’s Skylanders, Nintendo officially announced Amiibo, little figurines players can place on their systems to import characters into games.

Hello, Nintendo

Other big titles include Xenoblade Chronicles X, Super Smash Bros., Bayonetta 2 and more.

We’re hitting the Expo floor soon so keep your eyes peeled for more news! It’s going to be another long day …

Face off!

Press conferences and news

E3 is off with a bang! Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft and Sony are all holding Day 1 press conferences, and we’re gathering all the news you need to know below.

Plus, there was a little something on the Steam Machine front from Alienware.

Keep it locked on this page for more from video gaming’s biggest show as we’ll have plenty more – including news from Nintendo – to share as the week goes on.

In the meantime, here’s what we wanted to see before all the press conferences. As the show wraps up, we’ll also let you know our favorite parts of this year’s E3.

Microsoft at E3

It was games, games and more games for Microsoft’s at E3. The emphasis was of course on the company’s Xbox Oneconsole, and many titles were teased for this year and next.

The company gave word of The Master Chief Collection, a package of Halo 1 – 4 that will eventually include access to the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta. The Collection comes out November 11 for $59.99 (about £35, AU$64). The Halo 5 beta is out in December, and as an extra bonus The Master Chief Collection includes Halo: Nightfall. The original series from Ridley Scott and Sergio Mimica-Gezzen will provide an origin story for a crucial Halo 5 character.

A limited beta release is coming in December

Also revealed by Microsoft was a new Tomb Raider called Rise of the Tomb Raider. The new title, out in 2015, gives a look at how Lara Croft became the bad ass we know her as today.

As for the other major titles, Call of Duty fans can grab the new Advanced Warfare on November 4. Forza Horizon 2 will be out September 30 followed nearly a month later by Insomniac’s Sunset Overdrive, due out October 28.

Spine-tingling CoD excitement

Thanks to Ubisoft, we learned Assassin’s Creed Unity is due the same dayas well.

Rise, Lara. Rise

Other games include October 21′s Disney Fantasia, a new digital-only Dance Central game and a (take a deep breath) new DLC expansion for Dead Rising 3: Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX Plus Alpha. It’s not really a game per say, but Capcom hopes it serves to celebrate its “31st fanniversary.”

A Fable Legends multiplayer beta is due this fall and we got a good look at Dragon Age: Inquisition.

All the Xbox One games coming this year can be found right now

There was plenty of time devoted to Xbox One games releasing in 2015 besides Rise of the Tomb Raider, including a new Crackdown and a dragon-slaying adventure called Scalebound.

A shot of Sunset Overdrive

Keep your head up for The Witcher 3: Wilde Hunt, a new title in the Phantom Dust series and Ubisoft’s Division next year, too.

Microsoft showed a quick succession of new indie games, including Aztez, Knight Squad, Plague Inc Evolved, White Night, Earthlock: Festival of Magic, Cuphead, Hyper Light Drifter, Lifeless Planet, Slash Dash, Fru, Lover in a Dangerous Spacetime, Mighty No. 9, Grave, Threes, FenixRage, Woolfe, #IDARE, Hellraid and Below.

EA naturally focused on games for all platforms – Xbox One, PS4 and PC – during its EA presser, and some major titles got some major news during the proceedings.

Battlefield Hardline was given its due, but the most exciting thing about the new title was that it’s opening up in betaon PS4 and PC. However, it’s a first come, first served deal and only running for a limited time.

(Try to) join the fun

Also on EA’s docket was a tease. Well, actually, two teases that provided few details but plenty of buzz.

A new Mass Effect is on the way, maker BioWare confirmed, however beyond the fact that it’s not part of the franchise trilogy, there’s little to go on.

How Faith came to be

New looks were given to Mirror’s Edge 2, though more attention was paid to how DICE built the world around Faith (and Faith herself) instead of details like plot, settings and release date. We do know it will be an origin story of sorts. Oh, and she’s got way better parkour moves this time around.Ubisoft at E3

Perhaps the strangest press conference of the day, Ubisoft didn’t disappoint in showing its next-gen games. It did have the Day 1′s only on-stage dance-off to showcase the new mobile Just Dance Now, for better or for worse.

ubisoft dance off 12 E3 2014: All the latest from gamings biggest show

See what we mean

Things started out promising enough with a trailer for Far Cry 4 (out November 18) and Archer’s Aisha Tyler before taking a turn with Just Dance 2015, Just Dance Now and a fitness game called Shape Up.

We did learn Assassin’s Creed Unity will release October 18 on the Xbox One and PS4. What’s more, here’s a gameplay trailer to whet your whistle and know that four-layer co-op has been confirmed:

The proceedings did end on a high-note though as Ubisoft confirmed Rainbow Six Siege, – a five-on-five first-person shooter. Early gameplay footage of Siege pitted two teams of five – one set terrorists, the other SWAT – against one another in the attempt to rescue/hold a hostage in a small, presumably suburban, home.

The first Rainbow in six years

Rainbow Six Siege will be released sometime in 2015 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.Meet ‘Alpha,’ Alienware’s Steam Machine

It was quiet on the Steam Machine front on Day 1 except for one vendor – Alienware.

The firm revealed the name of its Steam Box to be Alpha and said it would release in time for the 2014 holiday season. The plan is to have it ship with an Xbox 360 controller since the Steam OS and Steam Controller aredelayeduntil next year. However, Alpha will be compatible with other gamepads, Alienware told TechRadar.

The Alpha dog of Steam Machines?

The console’s price starts at $549 (about £327, AU$588) and like Valve had promised, its parts will be swappable.Sony at E3

Sony. Oh, Sony. How confident you were, and rightly so. Not only did the makers of the PS4 announce new titles, it also came out with, surprise: new hardware.

First up, we expected Microsoft to unveil a white Xbox One, but Sony instead announced its own white PS4 console. The bleached console will be available bundled with the game Destiny and a 30-day subscription to PlayStation Plus.

The PS Vita TV system has been available in Japan for awhile now but Sony has rebranded the hardware asPlayStation TV and is bringing it to North American and European shores in the fall. The PlayStation TV will sell for $99 (about £58, AU$105) on its own and $139 (about £82, AU$148) as part of a bundle that includes a DualShock 3 controller, an HDMI cable, an 8GB memory card and your very own copy of the Lego Movie video game.

Major game announcements ranged from a surprising, brand new Little Big Planet 3 to the teased-before, and the highly anticipated Uncharted 4 – where we finally got … a slightly longer trailer.

a thiefs end 15 E3 2014: All the latest from gamings biggest show

No, don’t say goodbye, Drake and Sully…

Bloodborn, or the formerly leaked Project Beast, was also teased and got the internet-verse in a happy tizzy thanks to all the love for Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls developer and creator, both of which are behind the new title. Bloodborn is scheduled for a 2015 release.

Equally crowd pleasing, was another surprising announcement: a remaster and re-release of the classic adventure game Grim Fandango.

As if that wasn’t enough, Sony also told us we can travel to GTA V’s Los Santos on the PS4 this fall with Rockstar revealing that the Xbox One and PCs will also get a share of the popular game.

Finally, the PlayStation Now beta opens up for PS4 beginning on July 31 in the US and Canada.

E3 2014: Sony, Microsft, Ubisoft and EA

Update: There’s only a few days left but that hasn’t stopped the rumors. On the second page you’ll find a bit on Nintendo and a few more games as well. We’ve also added the official Battlefield Hardline trailer, if you’re into that (because why not?). As always, keep checking back for more news.

E3 2013 was the most competitive and downright crazy shows we’ve been to in the recent history of gaming. The Xbox One went head-to-head with thePS4 and began a new generation of console gaming.

But that doesn’t mean it was all great. After all, it’s been a whole year and there still aren’t a lot of games on the roster. That’s why we figure at this year’s June 10-12 Los Angeles event, big games are coming out to play.

Though that’s not all we’re expecting to see – virtual reality was the star ofGDC 2014 and there likely will be a ton more information from Sony, Oculus and other companies – if they’re smart and get in on the growing VR revolution.

We’re also hoping to see more of the Valve Steam Machines in action and perhaps hear an announcement from Nintendo to see just what the heck the über private company’s been up to.

The official E3 2014 floor plans have been released and it looks like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are lumped together in the West Hall with the other big names like Ubisoft and EA in South Hall.

Check out a more detailed list of what we want to see at E3 2014 below, and as we continue to update the page for more information leading up to our coverage of the show floor.Sony sets sights on VR

OK so it looks like Sony has something big planned for its PlayStation conference – what else could explain why its live-streaming the event to 40 movie theaters in the US?

Could it be the new info on Project Beast that’s popped up? Or maybeUncharted 4? But are these titles popcorn-worthy? After Beast leaked, it’s been noted that the game is first in a series of brand new announcements so there could be something even bigger in the works. Only a few more weeks until the Expo to find out.

Other than that, Sony seems to be on a roll lately. With the success of thePlayStation 4 and the announcement of its virtual reality endeavors,Project Morpheus , all we need is a big game for the company to be unstoppable.

Speaking of Morpheus, we’re expecting to hear more about the headset during Sony’s June 9 Press Conference. We were lucky enough to test out the gear ourselves, not once but twice and were duly impressed both times.

Along the way, we found out that Sony’s headset will probably change quite a bit before it becomes available to buy. Plus that light bar isn’t just to be a flashy feature – Project Morpheus was one of the main reasons it was put on there.

This headset looks so promising, we might even see an announcement for aMorpheus-specific game at E3.

We’ll also probably hear more about PlayStation Now, Sony’s Netflix-esque gaming service. With the PS Now beta out since the beginning of the year for the PS3 and the PS4 beta just announced, and a release expected for mid-2014, it seems like it’ll fall perfectly in line with June’s Expo.

News of a PS4 Slim being announced at E3 has recently circulated, but probably isn’t going to happen. If anything, there’ll just be hardware updates coming soon.Microsoft says ‘Game on’

It’s been a more tumultuous year for Microsoft and the Xbox One (see: the PS4′s 7 million units sold to the Xbox One’s 5 million shipped) but it’s not like the console or company are losing fans anytime soon. A freshly revealedKinect-less Xbox is being released on June 9 for £350 ($399), which matches the PS4′s own camera-less price point – may just ramp up sales.

But so far, it’s mostly thanks to the Xbox One-friendly Titanfall that the next-gen console has remained in the ring. Ryse: Son of Rome also proved popular at a time when the PS4 didn’t have any big titles. Rumor has it that we’ll be seeing a sequel announced during the June 9 Microsoft conference. But the biggest announcement that has come from the Redmond-based publisher is surely Halo 5: Guardians – which, we’re bound to learn even more about when Microsoft hits the stage Monday morning.

Major Nelson has noted on his blog that the conference will be called Xbox: Game On, so it’s safe to say there will be at least one or two (hopefully more) titles announced.

But games aside (don’t worry, it’s a brief aside) we’ll probably learn more about Microsoft’s new entertainment model. Specifically, with the consoles turning into a one-box type of entertainment machine with music and TV, we may get previews of Xbox’s new, original shows including the Steven Spielberg-produced Halo show.

Check out more Sony and Microsoft rumors about E3 right here!

Year of Ubisoft?

French multi-national video game developer and publisher Ubisoft seems ready to show off more next-gen titles during E3.

Currently, the company has been quite busy with hit after hit thanks to Assassin’s Creed and likely, the upcoming Watch Dogs game (despite someWatch Dogs controversy stirred in). You also can’t deny that Tom Clancy’s The Division looks pretty dang cool ever since it was announced at last year’s E3. Though it’s been recently delayed until 2015, we’re still going to see snippets of the game.

Is Watch Dogs really that next-gen?

In fact, Ubisoft noted in a blog just what it plans on touting during the show. Along with Watch Dogs and The Division, we’ll see French Revolution-set Assassin’s Creed Unity, Far Cry 4 in the Himalayas and a few more games.

What Ubi isn’t bringing to the table are games available on the Nintendo platform. According to Slashgear, the company will not feature any Wii U or3DS titles during the show.Whatchu got, EA?

Forget the trailer leaks. Battlefield Hardline has an official teaser trailer out, that happens to tell us the release date too! We can all look forward to the new Battlefield 5, October 21 later this year – if there aren’t any delays, of course. Check out the video below and expect to see more during E3.

Battlefield rumors begone! A teaser video for Battlefield Hardline (yes, it’s official now) has leaked and shown off a different kind of war, the “war on crime.” Speaking of official, Steve Papoutsis VP and General Manager of Visceral Games, and Executive Producer for Battlefield Hardline hasdefinitely confirmed the latest BF5 game.

In a series of tweets, he notes that the footage we’ve seen is six months old and that we’ll indeed be seeing more about the game during E3. In fact, we may even see more teases before the June 9 conference. Though that’s not going to stop the slew of unofficial leaks – like the most recent ones of two multiplayer modes, Blood Money and Heist, on a map called High Tension.

hardline 4 E3 2014: All the latest from gamings biggest show

A game of cops and robbers, Battlefield-style

Battlefield 5 just got another whole heaping pile of rumors thrown out on the interwebs. It’s been known that the next iteration will depart from its usual militaristic setting for one where you play as the police. Meaning the nameSlashgear has thrown out, “Battlefield S.W.A.T.,” seems to make sense. And just like that, there are now even fresher rumor-y bits about the next BF5 game. VG247 reported that Battlefield Hardline may be the title. A recent Battlelog seemingly also provided various info on the possible playable classes (Enforcer, Mechanic, Operator, and Professional), game modes and more.

Mass Effect 4 has also been heavily teased by BioWare for awhile now and it seems about right to show us something at E3 – perhaps during EA’s press conference? Speaking of BioWare, it’s highly probable Dragon Age: Inquisition will be touted.

dragon 5 E3 2014: All the latest from gamings biggest show

We’re ready for those dragons

We’d like to see some Star Wars Battlefront and maybe (just maybe) Battlefield 5 thrown in as well. The Sims 4, which is coming out soon, is most definitely on the roster as well. At least one or even two of these games will see the light of the E3 stage – Geoff Keighley of Spike TVtweeted that six games will be revealed during the EA World Premiere conference.

E3 2014: Nintendo, Valve, and more games

Nintendo needs something. Anything.

Grainy pictures from the Expo have surfaced from Nintendo Enthusiastpossibly revealing the mystery 3DS game people have been speculating about: Mario Maker. From what we can see, there’s definitely a stylus in the image that appears to be designing a Mario level – which happens to coincide with the name suggesting players will be able to create their own Mario worlds. Similar to Microsoft’s Project Spark and Sony’s Little Big Planet.

mario maker 16 E3 2014: All the latest from gamings biggest show

Is this real life?

Looks like Nintendo president Satoru Iwata won’t be attending E3 this year due to medical issues. Nintendo issued the following statement:

“He’s been instructed by his physician not to travel overseas in the immediate future, and so he will not be making the trip to Los Angeles.

“It is business as usual for Mr. Iwata, and he continues his normal duties as president of Nintendo Co., Ltd. while he remains in Japan. As always, he will be actively involved in all of Nintendo’s activities at the show.”

It’s not a huge deal since the company will be holding another Nintendo Direct event on Tuesday morning before the convention floor opens.

Hopefully whatever Nintendo has planned will put it on the map again. Perhaps a few game announcements are in the works? Like, say, a Legend of Zelda for the Wii U? Or even some new hardware?

It’s actually already been confirmed by Nintendo that we actually won’t see hardware, but knowing the company’s insane privacy measures, we can still cross our fingers and wish. There’s also two new Pokémon games hitting Nintendo’s handhelds and, if our predictions are correct, a possible price drop in the Wii U’s future.

Valve probably (not?) taking a breather

Make that a long breather. Turns out Valve is pushing back the release date of those Steam Machines to 2015, noting a vague “release window” is to be expected in order to keep improving the Steam Controllers. On the bright side (maybe?), it’s a little unclear whether the delay affects only Steam Machines being made by Valve or those being sold by the 14 partner companies as well.

Recent news also suggests the Valve team has been quietly working on Half-Life 3. Yes. You read that correctly. Rumors of HL3 have been around for ages but maybe (probably not) something will come out during E3? If not, we’re hoping to see more on Left 4 Dead 3 at least.

There was plenty shared on the hardware front during CES, Steam’s Dev Days and GDC but aside from getting our paws on both iterations of the Steam Controllers, we still have yet to play around with a Steam Machine.

So far we’ve gone hands on with the Alienware Steam Machine, and though it’s a slick device, we’re hoping to really see it in action during the Expo.

With the Machines unleashing from the various third-party vendors “later this year” and a likely fall release for the redesigned Steam Controller, we’re hoping to hear more about the new features – like Steam Music.

Asus also just announced not one, but two whole Steam Machines during Computex 2014. Asus isn’t going to release them until 2015, but like the Alienware Machine during CES, the Asus boxes may show up at E3 for some demo time.

We know Valve has its own virtual reality headset thanks to Steam’s Dev Days conference – but we also know the company plans on helping out Oculus. That hasn’t stopped the VR device from popping up though.

Valve’s headset showed up in Boston during a VR meetup where devs were given the chance to go hands on with it. Since it seems to be making the rounds, might we see it during E3 too?

More games, NOW

A few titles have already been mentioned but let’s get right down to what games we want to see happen at E3 this year, and what games we know will be on the Expo floor.

GTA V for the PC is due pretty soon here and it won’t be a surprise if Rockstar decides to finally out it at the show.
uncharted 17 E3 2014: All the latest from gamings biggest show

Where you at, Drake?

Uncharted 4 (or whatever it’s called) has to show up with more footage during Sony’s conference – at least that’s the rumor flying around right now. Let’s just cross our fingers that the Naughty Dog exodus really won’t affect the game development.

The Order 1886 was teased during the last Expo and then throughout the year as a potential blockbuster game. Despite delaying its Christmas 2014 launch to early 2015, we’re still expecting the PS4 conference to show us even more of the game in June to keep us content.

We’ll also definitely see Batman: Arkham Knight on the floor too, even though its joined the list of delayed games. However, with the announcement of Mortal Kombat X, there should still be plenty for Warner Brothers to show off – especially with new characters on the fight roster.

Bethesda has also been a busy little bee. Could we see the announcement and teaser for Fallout 4? Who knows, but The Evil Within sure looks promising and will probably be on the show floor in some capacity.

evil within 18 E3 2014: All the latest from gamings biggest show

Gross.

Well it looks like Fallout 4 is out of the picture. Bethesda and BattleCry Studios announced a collaboration that spawned the upcoming free-to-play game BattleCry. However, it will be a PC exclusive and doesn’t seem to match up with the following previously reported rumor below …

Bethesda has fervently stated that there will be no announcement for a new title, but siteVideogamer took a screenshot of an Amazon UK placer page which suggests Bethesda might just unveil something after all. Whatever the Skyrim publisher has in mind, it seems it will be out on the PS3, PS4, PC,Wii, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.

Microsoft’s Project Spark has seemingly failed to capture the attention of gamers since its announcement at last year’s E3, but the beta sounds like its been successful so far. We expect to see and hear more about the company’s answer to a Little Big Planet-esque game. Activision’s latest Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare should also give the Xbox One more oomph

Regardless of what gets announced, we just really want more games. There’s nothing wrong with wanting more games, right? In the meantime, keep up with us as we countdown the days to the Expo and fill up the page with even more news and bits of rumors to keep your gaming appetites satiated.
